But sometimes all this freedom seems useless when the question arises: What is it that I want to do?
Its not easy figuring out what to do for the rest of your life but there are a few things you can do to pass the time while you think.
- Get a Job: Whether its your full-time career or a part-time job, this is helpful in more than one way. You can spend your time doing something, and make money at the same time. Not that getting a job (or maintaining it) is easy, but if you save the cash, you can do things that can be a lot more fun. Instead of just sitting around while you think of what to do, make money while you think of what to do.
- Travel: Its always fun to visit places you've never been to before. And even if you've been there before, it could still be enjoyable. If you've got the money for it, do it. And if not, get a job until you can afford the trip. Get some friends to join you if you can, or go alone and use the time as personal meditation or something. Being somewhere new can also help you find out new things about yourself that can develop into life-long hobbies.
- Get a hobby: If you already have things that interest you, develop the skill. Exercise your hobbies a bit more and get better at them. Or start a new one that you've found interesting but never go to doing. You never know what your hobbies can lead to (maybe starting up an advice website to help people ^.^).
- Continue studying: If you've only graduated from high school, college can be a great next step. You get education and experience from this. If you've already got a degree, maybe try upgrading it (from an associate's to a bachelor's and so forth).
- Volunteer: Find a volunteer site you'd enjoy contributing in. You can spend your time at an animal shelter if you enjoy working with animals, parks if you enjoy nature, etc. It'll give you something productive to do with your time. You can volunteer with friends or alone since you get to meet people that have similar interests to yours.
- Ask: It never hurts to ask your friends and former classmates what they're doing now. Maybe you can get ideas from them or they can help you find out what you can do. You can also ask former teachers that you've kept in contact with from tips on how to figure out what's right for you or stories about what they or their other students did after graduating.
- Watch 9 tomorrow: It has been said that the movie 9 can change your life. No really, movies can be really inspirational.
